The Wild West was never as much fun as the betting-and-bluffing world of High Stakes Drifter! The hustlers, gamblers, lawmen, first nations, and outlaws have all thrown in their chips, and only those with nerves of steel and the right mix of skill, luck, and smarts will prevail! 1) Not only is "Doc" Holliday an infamous associate of the Wyatt Earp, but he's one of the most celebrated shootists of the Wild West. This version of "Doc" shows the brains and the luck behind the gun-hand, leaving him easily tailored to play well in either a Smarts-themed deck or a Luck-heavy deck. With his high kicker limit, "Doc" can be made into a powerful force to be reckoned with. Even better, when you make him more threatening by adding gear cards, you can draw up a hand full of fortune cards. Like most Hustlers, "Doc" works well in a deck heavily laced with fortune cards, as the more fortune cards are in the deck, the more often his special ability will turn up a useful card. Given how important fortune cards are to winning challenges, "Doc" is definitely a card any player looking into playing Smarts or Luck will want to have in his or her deck.

3) Some gear works exceptionally well when dudes of a certain faction are involved in a shootout. Cavalry Support, for example, is especially useful when trying to hunt down Outlaws, as the yellow-legs can employ much larger groups than the normal posse to hunt down outlaws who have gone on to ground. This is represented by the fact that if there is an Outlaw in the street, your dude who has Cavalry Support gets +4 to his smarts rather than just the normal +2 that the card usually gives. When looked at that way, cards like Cavalry Support are useful, but not incredibly so they give a situational bonus at a slightly higher cost than their standard bonus would normally run you. The interesting thing is that Cavalry Support is just as useful when it is played on an Outlaw rather than against one. In a rare situation, if an Outlaw could get the Cavalry on their side, they could become a serious force to be reckoned with. Not only does your Outlaw get the same +4 bonus to smarts from Cavalry Support that it would provide against him, but you can be guaranteed to get the additional bonus, because your Outlaw will be in the street! Luckily, cards like Cavalry Support with an alternate bonus are Uncommon, so you won't face more than two of each of them in a given deck, but if you do run into Cavalry Support, you had better be ready to Lose Your Hat. |
